What The Pop! A Pop-up Boutique, Gallery and Performance For All - Call For Submissions Is Now Open!

Emerging artists working in various mediums (see banner for "accepted media"), and who are based in Quebec, are invited to submit to the YES Pop-up Exhibition series titled WHAT THE POP! This series is designed to showcase your work while helping you develop new skills to monetize your art.

On the weekend of September 4th to the 6th, we will be holding pop-up exhibitions in different venues around the city of Montreal. The exhibitions will be preceded by a mandatory training session either on Wednesday, August 12 at 2:00 – 4:00 PM or on Thursday, August 13 at 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM on the topic of pop-up logistics and best practices, as well as on August 19 at 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM EST, on the topic of selling your work online.
There is also an optional workshop, The Do’s and Don'ts of Documenting your Art through Photography & Video, which takes place on Wednesday August 5, 12:00 – 1:30 PM. All training sessions and workshops can be attended online.

Pop-up exhibitions emerged in the last decade out of a need for increased accessibility to art and art spaces, all with a do-it-yourself philosophy. A pop-up is a short-term, non-traditional exhibition, held in a temporary and often alternative location, and can take on many forms.

Generally, pop-ups seek to help artists:
  • reach new audiences
  • engage with existing networks in an innovative way
  • test a new product
  • get a better understanding of their audience and clients
  • generate sales

YES is a not-for-profit organization that provides English-language support services to help artists, entrepreneurs and job seekers succeed in Quebec. We encourage people of diverse backgrounds (such as people of colour, aboriginal people, persons living with disabilities, members of the LGBTQAI+ communities, and other cultural communities) to apply and take this opportunity to highlight diversity in their application.

If you are an emerging artist with less than 5 years of professional experience as an artist, read the submission guidelines for important information including the full eligibility criteria.
