YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT: IT'S EVERYONE'S ISSUE - A PROVINCE WIDE FORUM

For photos of the event, please click here.
On Tuesday December 5th, we held a province-wide forum Youth Unemployment: It’s Everyone’s Issue at La Plaza, which gathered industry experts, businesses, academics, government officials, media and youth to address the issues of unemployment and under employment affecting English-speaking youth in Quebec. The goal will be to create recommendations that can help guide policy and community programming.

Jack Jedwab, President of the Association for Canadian Studies (ACS) and the Canadian Institute for Identities and Migration, opened the event with insight into the facts and statistics surrounding barriers to unemployment for the English-speaking and Allophone communities and offered some encouraging solutions and best practices.

The forum was well attended with over 100 delegates from across Quebec who engaged in open-ended discussions about what they are seeing on the ground where they live and gave feedback and recommendations for policy development.
A video and survey will also be part of this initiative to ensure maximum input. If you would like to view the video and/or participate in the survey, both will be available on www.yesmontreal.ca in January 2018.

This event is an extension of the Youth Voices: Community Talks Documentary that we launched in 2016 which brought together the firsthand accounts of young job seekers from across the province to present an honest look at what it’s like to navigate today’s job market.  To view the documentary, click here.

WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO MAKE A SPECIAL YEAR-END DONATION?

The Holiday Season is upon us and for many, it’s a time of peaceful reflection and celebration with friends and family. Lucky us!

Not everyone is so blessed.  For those unemployed, struggling artists and entrepreneurs or for those who have just arrived in Quebec this can be a time of deepening despair; lacking key supportive networks, they often feel isolated, hopeless and alone.

It is easy to forget about the true spirit of the holidays - giving!
We ask that you make a charitable donation of any amount to YES and give a gift that offers hope and meaning
to those struggling the most, while benefiting from a charitable tax receipt from YES.

Your gift to YES is a direct investment in someone’s future - it provides a young person with the resources and motivation
to lift themselves out of unemployment, an entrepreneur the opportunity to create a sustainable business,
or an artist the chance to live comfortably off their work.

Our campaign goal is to reach $40,000 by March 31st 2018.

We are asking you to join us in this effort by making a gift to help at least one young person succeed.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. EVERY DONATION HAS A BIG IMPACT.

PLEASE GIVE TODAY.

DISCOVER HOW NEGAR YAGHOOBI EXPANDED INTO THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET WITH THE HELP OF YES

Negar Yaghoobi studied IT and eCommerce back in her native Iran before creating her online business which promotes happiness through her platform, products & services. Over the last five years, this happiness maven built a successful online business in her homeland, opened two of her own physical stores dedicated to her products and has product placement in over 80 stores!  With a deep-seeded belief that happiness has no borders and is a language that everyone can understand, she decided to expand her business to the international market. “The ideal place was a respectful country that welcomes all nations with a smile: Canada,” Negar says. “I chose Montreal for its combination of European lifestyle and developed infrastructure".

After receiving her permanent residency in March of 2016, she continued to manage her business remotely while also working on the North America version of her happiness empire (www.colorful.zone) - which offers daily happiness challenges, inspirational prints, calendars, resources and  free downloads. This past year she also launched her IOS & Android happiness app.

When Negar first came to YES, she attended the Jump-Start Your Art and Financing workshop, then swiftly moved onto accessing other YES services. “I went to YES to help me find my way in this new market,” Negar says. “Over the last six months, my business coach Elizabeth Araujo has helped me on this new path so I could get to the point of working on our international brand, Colorful Zone.”
In conjunction to continuing with her YES coaching, she is gearing up to participate in District 3 - Concordia University's incubator program, and working on her 2018 goals which include opening a Montreal-based store and distributing her products throughout North America. Negar continues to demonstrate a true entrepreneurial spirit by consulting with others, testing, learning, growing, and scaling both online and offline. We congratulate Negar on her successes and wish her well with her joyful business expansion!
