DISCOVER HOW ZAC DECAMP LAUNCHED AND MANAGES HIS UNIQUE BUSINESS WITH THE HELP OF YES

Zac DeCamp’s foray into the music industry as a songwriter, recording engineer, DJ, and now, record cutter, didn’t happen by accident. A native of Geneseo, NY, Zac planted himself in Montreal in 1998 and a year later became an active member of the city’s thriving music scene. With a B.Sc Joint Major in Computer Science and Music Technology, numerous musical collaborations, an overseas excursion to Germany for training on vinyl cutting, a DJ residency, and even a GRAMMY Award nomination (“Automatic Music Can Be Fun” by Geneseo) all under his belt, Zac’s attention is now firmly set on his company, Chestnut Street Records. The focus of the company is on "the craft of cutting records with a lathe, one at a time, and transferring sounds from as many different sources (customers) as possible.”
The desire to bridge his artistic passion with business brought him to YES in 2017. “For most of my artistic career, I have focused solely on the art, and actually felt that business activities (money) would negatively impact the art,” Zac says.  “Now I believe that building a sound business is the way to nurture and sustain the art. My sessions with the YES Artist Coach have been very influential in my shift in attitude and assisted in removing my fear of ‘business.’”

“My coach has also provided very tangible direction - specifically in setting up an online presence.  She connected me with Bandzoogle for my website, and that has become a great resource,” he continues.  “It’s really encouraging to discuss your business, your future, with a business coach, and have them say, ‘Yes, this can work!’”

With the current surge of interest in vinyl in Montreal and beyond, Zac has a bright future ahead of him with the prospect of developing his own record label and hiring staff to help bring his vision to the next level.
