YES IN THE NEWS

Last week, Iris Unger (Executive Director, YES Montreal),  and two of YES' Women in STEM leaders, Sophie Aladas (Strategic Development Manager, CAE), and Cindy Fagen (COO, SAP Canada), met with the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour and the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation,
Science and Economic Development.

Unger, Aladas and Fagen briefed the Canadian ministers on YES' Advancing Women in STEM initiative, which is guided by an advisory committee of 15 female leaders from private industry. The committee is attempting to find solutions to a number of challenges stifling women’s retention of and access to leadership positions within the STEM industry (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). The meetings are beling held in preparation for the G7, which takes place in June.

regarding its new Action Planon official languages with new spending of $500M over the next 5 years.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was also in attendance.

DISCOVER HOW ABDUL RAHMAN BENSALIM LANDED A JOB IN THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY

Abdul Rahman Bensalim moved to Montreal from Halifax on the second day of 2018, with a clear focus: learn French and land himself a job in the pharmaceutical industry. Being fresh out of school, with a degree in Biology, Abdul started out by studying French and getting involved in as many meetups and events as he could where eventually, he heard about YES.

“Before enrolling at YES, I would spend hours tirelessly applying to jobs on websites, my LinkedIn profile was inconsistent, and my professional attire was mediocre,” Abdul says.  “I was lost and confused, and going nowhere.”

“Not only did the people that I interacted with at YES really care about me, but everyone there did,” he continues. “That type of support is absolutely priceless.” As soon as he began his one-on-one job coaching sessions, Abdul overcame his obstacles: his résumé, LinkedIn profile, cover letter, professional attire, phone and in-person interview skills, networking strategy, companies and job research procedures were all improved and most importantly, his morale was boosted. With all these factors in place, Abdul felt ready to tackle the actual interview process.

After three separate interviews, Abdul was hired at Medisca as a Customer Service Representative.
“The Pharmaceutical industry is a challenging industry to navigate and also a really exciting one to be a part of. I am really enjoying my job! I am always learning new things, forging new relationships and working on building an awesome career!” Abdul says.  “I could never imagine landing such a high quality job like the one I have now if it wasn’t for YES!”
