FIND OUT HOW JESSICA BROWN LANDED A JOB WITH THE HELP OF YES

Jessica Brown studied Political Science at the University of Toronto and worked as a freelance writer/researcher for several years prior to moving to Montreal two years ago.

Shortly after leaving her last job at a temp agency, she sought out our services. She attended several of our job search workshops and in May, she was invited to take part in an event at the C2 International Business Conference, presented through a partership between YES, C2 and the Quebec Provincial Government. The event brought together 100 graduates and 50 companies for a full day of networking.

“When I first started with YES, I needed help finding a job that allowed me to fully engage my skills, providing flexibility to continue my education, while also giving me practical experience in an area that aligned with my professional goals,” Jessica says. After nine months and with the help of her YES Career Advisor, Jessica landed a job with Concordia University as a manager for the school’s bookstore.

“My greatest achievement in this process has been engaging with the job search process itself,” she continues. “Having done mostly temp or contract work prior to this, working with YES was the first time I was truly engaged in the job search process. It was a lot of work as my biggest struggles were lack of confidence, needing professional direction, being in a new town, a new culture, and learning how to navigate through all of that.”

Working with YES not only helped her to navigate the Montreal job market, but also gave her a chance to really examine and affirm her professional strengths and accomplishments. “I started to see the patterns in my work experience that I hadn’t noticed before,” Jessica says. “By really taking the time to examine the kind of work I gravitated toward in the past, I was able to get a clearer sense of the direction I wanted to continue moving in – something I really needed. I feel empowered, more confident in myself, and excited about the possibilities.”
