DISCOVER HOW DANIELA ROJO LAUNCHED HER BUSINESS WITH THE HELP OF YES
Daniela Rojo started her journey as an entrepreneur at the young age of 12 where she started a small henna tattoo and face painting business. She is now the founder and proprietor of Suniela Beach, a manufacturer of sunshades that are ultra-light weight, wind-proof and easy to set-up.  The inspiration for this business came from her mother and aunt who created an alternative beach umbrella in the early 1990s.

Daniela learned the fundamentals of business and entrepreneurship with the help of mentors, the internet, and by attending specialized professional workshops at YES.

“In a short amount of time, I realized the intensity of being an entrepreneur; from creating a brand, to accounting, web-design, overseas production, and importing… there is always something new to learn and questions to ask. Having a place like YES to discuss and address these questions with an array of experienced coaches is invaluable,” Daniela explains.

“When I moved to Montreal last fall, I was really excited to find a place like YES. I immediately took part in the Business Bootcamp and Business Plan Workshop. It’s a great resource for meeting other entrepreneurs, and for learning about all aspects of business” Daniela adds.

“In the early days, I struggled with the basics including sourcing the right material while producing the product at home… After meeting with my coach at YES, my time management skills and productivity have improved, and I’m feeling significantly less overwhelmed.  As my company continues to expand, I’m looking forward to learning more and growing with the help of YES!”

YES IN THE NEWS: YES AT THE SECOND NATIONAL MEETING IN HALIFAX

YES’s ‘Advancing Women in STEM’ project was represented by Cindy Fagen (COO SAP) and Elisabeth Laett (VP Exagens) at the Second National Meeting in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The National Meetings are annual events organized by the National Gender Equality Network Canada, a women’s collaboration that is working on a national action plan for gender equality.

The Network was launched last year with funding from Status of Women Canada and is convened by the Canadian Women’s Foundation. All of the women in the network are nominated by local organizations who are working to advance gender equality in their communities.

As National Leaders and advisory committee members to the ‘Advancing Women in STEM’ project at YES, Cindy Fagen and Elisabeth Laett have participated in the two-day national meetings during which they shared the project’s objectives and proposed recommendations to increase women’s retention and access to leadership positions within the STEM industry.

IN MEMORIAM: JERRY SILVERBERG
It is with heavy heart that we share the news of Jerry Silverberg’s passing.  Jerry worked at YES for over 15 years and was one of our most-beloved business coaches.  Always armed with a sharp wit (and equally sharp sense of humour), and an unparalleled desire to help, Jerry devoted his time to helping shape young business minds and played an important role in bringing several small businesses to light.

It's not every day you meet someone who is that passionate in what they do and puts their time, talent and irresistible enthusiasm to helping others where it’s needed most.  He will be sadly missed by all of us here at YES and we extend our deepest sympathies to the Silverberg Family during this difficult time.
