FIND OUT HOW EDWARD CHAN FOUND A NEW JOB WITH THE HELP OF YES

Edward graduated from McGill University over a decade ago and built his career in Engineering and Product Management. He was a Director of Product Management for a tech company but unfortunately got let go which led him to question whether to continue on with his current career path or pivot towards something new.

After a bit of soul searching and Googling, Edward found himself at our Jump Start Your Job Search Express Orientation Session.

“My biggest struggle was figuring out if there was something more interesting than what I’ve already done in my career, and if it was worth the change,” he says.

Edward also attended the Self-Assessment workshop which introduced him to various assessment tools and also helped him to realize the usefulness of informational interviews. “After attending a few workshops and consultations with YES, I was able to learn the most effective way to find a job, plus understand what needs to stick out on your cv and cover letter,” he says.

Back in Spring 2018, he attended the YES/C2MTL Networking event where he was able to meet with potential employers which rejuvenated his motivation to find meaningful work.
“In the end, I got three job offers, and I’m currently working for the largest Canadian home and auto insurance company and still within product management,” Edward says. “YES reinforced the fact that nothing interesting happens at home; I proactively went to local meetups, plus had many cups of coffee and lunches with my network informing them that I was searching.”
