ONLY TWO MONTHS LEFT: JOIN US IN OUR EFFORTS AND HELP US TO CONTINUE THE WORK THAT WE DO!

Do you remember how it felt when you were looking to begin your career; certain that with hard work, dedication and the right support, your career vision could become a reality?  As you know, the employment conditions of young people today are more challenging than ever before; employment and economic conditions have changed and so have the opportunities. Are you one of the fortunate ones who have a job or a place to go to work each day? If so, are you willing to pay it forward and help others to achieve their dreams?

When YES was founded 20 years ago, we helped about 120 job seekers; now, we help over 4,500 people per year and we still can’t meet demand. We would love to be able to help everyone who comes through our doors, but we have limited funds.

We do not want to turn people away and that is why we need your help. With your donation, we can provide valuable one-on-one counselling, access to career development workshops, and a safe and inspiring environment for a young person to address the issues associated with unemployment and the challenges of finding a lasting and meaningful job. With just a little bit of extra support from YES, our youth have a much greater chance of securing employment.

We are asking you to join us in this effort by making a gift to help at least one young person succeed.  Any amount will help.

CREATIVE CONNECTIONS: PROVIDING MEANINGFUL NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES FOR QUEBEC'S ARTISTIC COMMUNITY
On Wednesday, January 29, YES hosted Creative Connections, a unique event that provided an opportunity for Quebec’s artistic talent to create meaningful networking opportunities with local companies and businesses who need specialized creative products and services. Over 30 pre-selected YES Artist Program clients and 14 participating companies/professional buyers participated in this widely successful event, which took place at the Centre Mont-Royal. In short round-table sessions, companies in attendance met and interacted directly with some of Quebec’s most creative, locally-based artists.

The goal of these interactions was to establish professional relationships and provide fruitful leads for artists, as well as to provide companies with an opportunity to evaluate potential business opportunities while supporting their local artistic community. Companies in attendance included ALDO, Twist Image, PLANK, Beavertails and BAM Strategy, among others. YES would like to thank all the companies and artists who participated as well the event's funder, Canadian Heritage, who made this initiative possible.

WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY - NETWORK NOW: CALL FOR CANDIDATES

CLIENT OF THE MONTH: ERIK VIRTANEN

Erik Virtanen moved to Montreal from Vancouver Island and became a full-time screenwriter by day and musician by night. His love of film and music led him into the world of audio post-production where he managed the sound and music for ads, video games, films, and TV series for broadcast on National Geographic, FOX, ABC, Food Network, Discovery, HGTV, MusiquePlus, and more. In September 2013, Erik and business partner, Jeremy Reid, opened Calibre Audio, calling upon talented people they had worked with to offer complete audio post-production and music services to production companies and filmmakers.

“Being new to launching a business, I went to YES for business coaching services and met regularly with coach, Paul Higgins,” says Erik. “In addition to invaluable advice, Paul helped me write a business plan which has enabled Calibre Audio to raise $45,000 to build a new studio this summer.” Most recently, Calibre Audio took part in the Creative Connections event that successfully connected Erik with talented peers in entertainment as well as top production companies in the city.

YES IN THE NEWS: GETTING THROUGH THE JOB-SEEKING BLUES

As part of an ongoing segment on Global Montreal's Morning Show, YES' Executive Director, Iris Unger, discusses job search facts and tips with host Richard Dagenais.

Iris Unger discusses why more and more job seekers are suffering from “situational” mental health issues while looking for a job and offers some tips to cope with the job-seeking blues.
