YES Conference Broadens Business Skills and Explores Creative Power of Collaboration
Montreal - March 20, 2017 - If you are an artist looking to create a sustainable career around your talent, YES, a non-profit organization that helps artists build business skills, is hosting their annual Business Skills for Creative Souls Conference on March 27 to help you do just that. More than 20 panelists and speakers in the arts who have navigated the tricky waters themselves will be on hand to offer their insights and experiences.

The business side of an arts career is complicated; writing grant proposals, developing marketing tools, and building an online presence can be complex, time consuming and difficult to navigate. However without these fundamental elements of business, artists often cannot make money from their art.

In this day-long event, artists of all ages and disciplines learn about concrete business concepts like digital marketing and how to find multiple streams of revenue, but they also learn about making connections and the creative power of collaboration, which is the theme of this year’s conference.

“Writers, visual artists, musicians, dancers, film-makers, all approach things differently, but they’re all dealing with the same issues”, says Marie-Michèle Fillion, Artist Program Coordinator and Coach at YES. “And if they collaborate and work together, they can draw on each other’s skills, experience and perspective to spark new ideas and cultivate their talent into a lucrative career”.

The speakers, who come from multi-disciplinary backgrounds, include Justin West who turned a passion for music into Silver City Records, a record and publishing empire garnering several JUNO and Felix awards, Rishi Dhir from local musical treasure Elephant Stone, dance company pioneer Roger Sinha, Youtuber Jackie NerdECrafter, forward fashion designers Simon Bélanger & José Manuel St-Jacques, writer/performance artist Jacob Wren, critically-acclaimed actor Eloi ArchamBaudoin and many more.

Sonali Karnick, CBC Radio One journalist and host, is moderating this year’s conference which will wind up with a networking "Schmoozer and Minute Market" hosted in partnership with ELAN.  ELAN will also speak on the artistic associations panel along with a number of other local organizations dedicated to the well-being of the artistic community, including Illustration Québec and Diversité artistique Montréal.

For more information on the artists who will be speaking visit

Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online at or by phone at 514-878-9788.  The conference takes place  from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Societe des Arts Technologiques, 1201 Boul. St. Laurent. All conference content will be presented in English.
