CLOSE TO 200 ARTISTS DARED TO DREAM BIG AT OUR BUSINESS SKILLS FOR CREATIVE SOULS ARTISTS CONFERENCE

Have you ever looked at artists who’ve made it and wondered how they got there? Nearly 200 artists and creative types joined us at the St-Jax on March 25th for Our Business Skills for Creative Souls Artist Conference to learn the strategies that successful artists follow to thrive in their careers.  The day was jam-packed with tons of relevant topics and inspiration. Every presenter from Cheryl Sim to Tranna Wintour to Kid Koala made sure everyone walked away with something relevant to their practice, whether they’re musicians, dancers, painters, photographers or writers.

Big thanks to everyone – artists, speakers, community partners, supporters volunteers and sponsors for participating and making the day a standout event in our programming.

It was a great day of learning and inspiration, and we look forward to doing it all again next spring.  See you all next year!

IT`S NOT TOO LATE TO GIVE TO OUR ANNUAL FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

DID YOU KNOW?

Our studies show that English speakers have a harder time finding work in Quebec. New arrivals who don’t speak French well enough have more difficulties in setting up their own business here. And women in the STEM sectors continually encounter roadblocks hindering the advancement of their careers.

YES has a variety of programs, resources and the know-how to help all these people start (or re-start) their careers or entrepreneurial endeavors and contribute to our community, but we can't do it without your help!

Our campaign goal is to reach $45,000

We are asking you to join us in this effort by making a gift to help at least one young person succeed.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. EVERY DONATION HAS A BIG IMPACT.

PLEASE GIVE TODAY.

FIND OUT HOW WILFRED VALENTA GOT THE FOCUS HE NEEDED FOR HIS BUSINESS

Wilfred Valenta is an internet entrepreneur and inventor with 7 years experience in the technology sector. He holds a BCom, Double Major in Finance & Economics from McGill University and is a two-time Quebec Enterprise Award Winner, Montreal Inc Grant Recipient, Enterprize Canada Award Recipient, and recognized panelist at the McGill University Entrepreneurship Society.

An entrepreneur at heart, he recently co-founded Silofit, recognized by Harvard, D3 and Montreal inc. as the first company to offer a real estate service for the fitness industry.  Silofit is currently building a network of private, on-demand fitness spaces with a focus on leasing and converting small offices into micro-gyms.  “My goal was to build something that would change the way people live,” Wilfred says. “We're now entering our second round of funding and opening five more spaces this year.”

Wilfred’s steady climb towards success wasn’t always a smooth ascent, so he took advantage of our Business Coaching services to maintain his focus and not become discouraged. “Getting people to understand your vision and buying in is difficult when you start from scratch,” he says.  “Building a business is all about leverage, and that means leveraging your team, vision, product, and skillset. Raising capital is difficult but if you keep going long enough eventually people will help you push the boulder up the mountain because you ignited an inspiration to be a part of something bigger.”

YES played a crucial role in giving Wilfred the opportunity to meet others who were in the same situation. “I felt like I was the only one going through the struggle,” Wilfred says. “With YES, I found a friend, a mentor and the opportunity to talk to fellow entrepreneurs along with the realization that the hard problems of today are just a stepping stone towards a brighter future.”

“The best part about YES was the personal growth that I experienced from learning how to handle everyday problems,” he continues. “YES gives you the tools to put in your toolbelt so that you can tackle any problem that comes your way.”
